Childhood Memories
One of my most prevalent memories of my father was the words, "You could do anything you want to." I think he was trying to say that you can do anything you set your mind to, but I interpreted it specifically for myself. As a child, I was never afraid to try something new, and he knew that. I would look at things with an analytical mind and reverse engineer whatever I was working on (including taking apart his drill, camera, etc.). At 14 years old (don't tell OSHA or DOL), I was running a small printing operation on an AB Dick sheetfed press. The owner was trying to save his business, so I was trained on the entire process: laying out the artwork, shooting the plates, setting up the press, and running the entire job. Whenever I start doubting myself or my abilities, I reflect back on these memories.
